History Mystery #13: A device with large handles
Ian LamontWe spotted this item in back corner of an antiques shop. It’s made of wood and metal, and probably dates from the early 20th century, although variations likely existed 100 years prior or even earlier:

Size: The apparatus is approximately 2 feet long, with two fixed handles. Five open tubes with pointed ends are located on one side. Similar devices may have more of these tubes, but of a smaller width. Note that the wheel and metal eagles in the background are not part of the device.
Hint: This device was only used in the U.S., particularly New England, New Jersey, and parts of the Upper Midwest and Pacific Northwest. It would have been used outside.
Any guesses? We will be VERY impressed by those of you who know what this was for without using AI or Google reverse image search.
