The basic idea behind using printed genealogy forms is to fill in the blanks using information obtained from other sources. Sources may include:
- Family scrapbooks
- Interviews with family members
- Vital records such as birth, marriage, and death records
- Religious records such as baptismal records
- Online sources such as Ancestry.com or FamilySearch.org
- Your own memory or recollections
For instance, if you were to use the EasyGenie family group sheet (also available in a separate bundle of 40 sheets) to record information about your great-grandparent’s family, you might use recollections from an interview with one of your grandparents, paper records such as a birth certificate, or information you research online. Write down information such as birthdates, places of birth, etc. in the lines provided on the family group sheet. Because the forms are made with acid-free paper, the information can be preserved for many decades if stored in a dry place.
It’s fine to use multiple sources of information to fill out a form. EasyGenie strongly recommends listing the source(s) of information on each sheet as well as the date(s) the information was entered – this will help you or your descendants trace the information trail in the future.
